This commercial EV can reduce maintenance and fuel costs for your business.

As more electric vehicles (EVs) are entering the ASEAN region, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is responding with the Minicab-MiEV all-electric commercial vehicle (CV).

Mitsubishi will commence the production of the Minicab-MiEV next year at PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI), which is the automaker’s factory in Indonesia. It will be the first time that the commercial EV will be produced outside of Japan since its domestic launch in December 2011.

The Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV is coming with an EV system that consists of a drive battery and a compact, lightweight, and highly-efficient motor. Since the battery is placed under the center of the floor, the EV components don’t compromise interior space.

Looking at the JDM-spec Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV, the vehicle is available in two-seater and four-seater variants. Powering the Minicab-MiEV is a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery with an electric motor, producing a total output of 40 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque. It can run for an average range of 133 km.

In comparison to a CV with an internal combustion engine (ICE), an all-electric CV promises zero-emissions hauls. It is also capable of improving operation costs as EVs have fewer running parts, reducing maintenance costs. Considering that fuel prices are still relatively high, commercial EVs can be entrepreneurs’ ticket to reducing the costs on fuel.

“Automakers are now being required to respond to the rapid, global movement toward a decarbonized society,” said Mitsubishi Motors President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato.

“We believe that Kei-car class commercial EVs are the optimal solution to the ‘last one mile problem’ in logistics. In order to meet the growing demand for EVs in the ASEAN region, we have made the decision to produce this vehicle locally outside of Japan for the first time,” added Kato.

Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) hasn’t put out an official statement regarding the matter. But considering that the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV will be produced in our region, there is a good chance to see the all-electric CV on our roads.
