It is an open secret by now that Mitsubishi is developing the next-generation iteration of the Strada pickup truck. So much so that the new version has been spotted yet again on the road. This time, the truck was seen being tested in Thailand in rainy conditions.

In a series of spy photos posted by MZ Crazy Cars on its Facebook page, the next-gen Mitsubishi Strada is carrying heavy camouflage. It is a similar sight to our previous report where the truck is spotted in Colorado, United States under the same black and white camouflage
Looking at the photos, the pickup appears to be larger in dimensions with its boxier-looking stance. Currently, the model spans 5,305 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height.

No clear design changes are seen due to the heavy camouflage. But as a Mitsubishi-badged model, we can expect to see a new face guided by the brand’s Dynamic Shield front fascia. It also shows a similar daytime running light (DRL) design as the one you can see in the Mitsubishi Xpander.
Under the hood, we still aren’t sure whether the Strada will carry over its 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel engine or will be replaced with another power unit. There are reports saying that the brand is studying the possible hybridization of the truck’s powertrain.
The next-gen version is expected to come out in metal later this year
What we know is that the next-gen Nissan Navara will be based on the upcoming Strada courtesy of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s leader-follower development strategy. Both are set to share the same platform but still retain the brands’ distinctive design languages for their respective truck.
Reports suggest that we get to see the reveal of the next-generation Mitsubishi Strada sometime later this year. Upon its debut, the new model will succeed the fifth-generation Strada that is currently running for almost eight years now.
