The automaker celebrated the achievement with a ceremony held at its Laem Chabang facility in Chonburi province. Officials from both the company and Thai government were in attendance during the event.

“Thailand’s strategic status as an automotive hub helped drive Mitsubishi Motors Thailand to become the hub for its regional and international operations,” said Eiichi Koito, President & CEO for Mitsubishi Motors Thailand. “As we continue to expand our growth in Thailand, we will also focus on ensuring our operations leave sustainable impacts for the Thai society.”

He adds that the company will implement carbon-reduction projects all over the country, as well as take a leading role in electrification as an alternate form of mobility towards a carbon-neutral society.

The flagship model for this achievement is the Strada midsize pickup

Chief among the models shipped internationally is the Triton midsize pickup (known in our market as the Strada), accounting for over 50 percent of exports. While Mitsubishi Motors Thailand started operations in 1961, it commenced local production only in 1992. Apart from the Strada, the automaker also manufactures the Mirage subcompact hatchback, Mirage G4 subcompact sedan, Montero Sport midsize SUV, and the Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) midsize crossover.

At present, Mitsubishi’s facilities in Thailand include three assembly plants, one engine factory, one paint factory, and an education academy that serves as a training center for employees. In addition, it also houses the first proving ground outside of Japan to strengthen research and development.
