The sales will commence shortly after in Q4 2023.

Volvo Philippines is bolstering its electrification campaign in the country by launching the C40 and XC40 Recharge models soon. The two are electric vehicles (EVs) that will compete in the all-electric subcompact luxury crossover category.

Volvo will launch two new EVs soon

Volvo will be joining other mainstream brands that pioneer the EV market in the country. Some of these include Nissan with the LEAF and Hyundai with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, which share underpinnings with the Kia EV6.

For Volvo’s upcoming EV entries, the C40 Recharge and XC40 come with identical dimensions as they share the same platform. Both are equipped with a 245-horsepower electric motor at the rear axle and a new 157-horsepower motor at the front axle, completing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

The two will enter the local subcompact luxury crossover segment

In terms of range, the XC40 Recharge can run up to 537 km on a single charge, while the C40 Recharge will offer a range of 549 km. Of note, the range figures are registered under WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) standards. The impressive range is made possible by pairing the AWD to an 82 kWh battery pack.

The two upcoming Volvos will champion the brand’s commitment to go all-electric by 2030. By 2025, the company aims for half of its global sales to consist of EVs.

Volvo is expanding its electrified portfolio in the country

While both get a set of 19-inch wheels, they differ in terms of styling. The C40 Recharge has a sloping, coupe-like roof and a different taillight design. Volvo claims the C40 boasts great headroom in the front, while the XC40 has superior headroom in the back.

“We are thrilled to introduce two purely electrified models – the Volvo C40 and the Volvo XC40. These models both carry Volvo Cars’ ambition of becoming a fully electric car company by 2030,” said Volvo Philippines President and CEO Atty. Albert Arcilla.

“We believe it’s time for the Philippine market to discover the benefits of driving a pure electric Volvo car and experience for themselves what sustainable mobility is,” added Atty. Arcilla.

The Volvo EVs will offer an AWD system and a range of over 500 km

The Volvo C40 and XC40 are slated to make their Philippine debut on October 4, 2023. Sales could start in the fourth quarter of this year.
