Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) might have a wide array of vehicles in its lineup, but there is currently one segment where it has no entry, and that is the subcompact crossover category. Given how popular this market has been in the past years, one can say that it would be ideal for TMP to bring in a challenger.
Toyota Raize
In a report by Autoindustriya.com, the lack of a subcompact crossover entry is about to change as TMP plans to add the Raize (rebadged Daihatsu Rocky) to the Philippine lineup. Introducing this relatively new Toyota model makes sense due to the market trend and its crossover characteristics such as a sedan-like ride comfort while offering more cabin space.
TMP hasn’t disclosed many details about the PH-spec Raize, aside from its expected arrival around February 2022. But looking at the specs for the regional version, the upcoming subcompact crossover could come with a floating-type 8-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and an LED lighting setup with sequential turn signal lamps.

It's yet another rebadged Daihatsu in Toyota's lineup
Another interesting feature we can expect is the integration of Toyota Safety Sense. This showcases advanced-driver assistance technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Departure Alert, Lane Departure Assist, Pedal Misoperation Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Monitoring.
There could be two engine options offered in the PH-spec Raize. The first one is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that makes 87 hp and 113 Nm of torque, while the other is a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged mill that generates 97 hp and 140 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are the likely gearbox options.
The Raize is a worthy challenger in the subcompact crossover battle
It should not be long before TMP formally touches on the topic as the expected arrival date is just a few months from now. Upon its Philippine debut, the Toyota Raize will compete against the likes of the Geely Coolray, MG ZS, Ford EcoSport, Kia Seltos, and Chevrolet Tracker, among others.
