With the rise of electrification, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) wants to keep its midsize sedan entry, the Camry, at a competitive level in the local market as it introduced the Camry 2.5 V HEV with a hybrid powertrain. This is not the first time the nameplate used a hybrid powertrain. It was in 2006 when the Japanese automaker first introduced a Camry Hybrid in the global market. For Filipino car buyers, this should be an exciting update considering the reputable years the said model spent in the global market. To note, non-hybrid variants are no longer part of the PH-spec Toyota Camry range.

That said, let’s take a look at the new features the 2022 Toyota Camry can offer.

Exterior

No significant changes have been made on the outside. The PH-spec 2022 Toyota Camry is still on its 8th-gen version that carries a sleek and plush look. But with the hybrid powertrain of the Camry 2.5 V HEV, the Toyota logos have blue surrounding accents to signify its eco-friendly benefits. This feature can also be seen on the Toyota Corolla Altis and Corolla Cross.

Similar to the outgoing model

New on the exterior include bi-beam LED headlights, a single exhaust setup (from dual exhausts), and redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels. Other than those features, the model still offers automatic headlamp leveling, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED fog lamps, and power, auto-retract, reverse, and memory side mirrors.

Interior

A familiar cabin layout can still be seen on the inside. The only new design change is the infotainment screen configuration which is now a floating type. Also, the new Camry offers a moon roof that comes with a tilt & slide function and jam protection. Both updates help create more executive touches in the interior.

Included in the interior amenities are the 8-way power adjust with memory for the driver, 8-way power adjust for the front passenger, 7-inch TFT multi-information display, steering wheel with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Departure controls, heads-up display, and 3-zone automatic climate control.

Tech & Safety

The new Camry is installed with a 9-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Smart Device Link, and Miracast. It is now placed above the A/C vents to execute the floating-type design. This system is paired with a 9-speaker JBL sound system for a fuller listening experience on the go.

Aside from the new hybrid powertrain, the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense package is another significant update. It offers a Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and additional Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Engine

Powering the new Toyota Camry Hybrid is a 2.5-liter A25A-FXS 4-cylinder gasoline engine that makes 176 hp and 221 Nm of torque. But thanks to the additional motor generator, the hybrid powertrain can generate a total power output of 208 hp, improving the performance capabilities of the new model.

More powerful and efficient powertrain

The use of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is another new feature in the powertrain. It generally provides a smoother driving experience and better fuel consumption as compared to a geared transmission. That said, the driving experience in the midsize sedan is expected to be smoother and steadier.

Price

TMP is offering the 2022 Camry 2.5 V HEV at Php 2,335,000, making it Php 278,000 more expensive than the outgoing non-hybrid V variant. For the price, car buyers can benefit from a hybrid powertrain that offers improved performance and efficiency, an updated safety tech, and new plush features.
