Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched another safety recall campaign that includes the Avanza, Veloz, and Yaris Cross. This latest recall involves over 40,000 units of the said Toyota vehicles.
The latest Toyota Philippines recall is due to an issue in the front shock absorbers of select Avanza, Veloz, and Yaris Cross. This recall affects 40,308 units of select Avanza, Veloz, and Yaris Cross sold in the Philippines. The car brand said that the front shock absorber nut in the said Toyota vehicles needs to be retightened.
TMP shared that the nuts may not be adequately tightened during the vehicles’ production. The car brand added that the nuts may become loose when the vehicle is operated continuously, which can cause abnormal noise. In the worst case, these nuts may come off, posing a risk to vehicle stability.
Here’s a breakdown of the affected Avanza, Veloz, and Yaris Cross models:
- Avanza/Veloz: 36,930 units, produced from January 7, 2022 to September 4, 2023
- Yaris Cross: 3,378 units, produced from May 29, 2023 to September 4, 2023
Affected vehicle owners will be notified by TMP through an official Notification Letter. Customers will then be invited by authorized Toyota Dealers to retighten the front shock absorber nut and inspect for any missing or damaged related parts. TMP said that this is free of charge to vehicle owners.
Toyota Philippines is also encouraging all affected vehicle owners to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer to perform the necessary vehicle repairs to prevent problems from occurring.
Of note, this is not the first time the Avanza and the Veloz were part of a safety recall campaign by Toyota Philippines as the said seven-seater MPV models are included in two other separate recalls.
The same Avanza and Veloz models are also in a recall due to the improper welding in the side impact beam inside the right front door. The Avanza and the Veloz are also part of the recall that involves concerns about the front disc brake cylinder slide pin boot.
