A new expressway from Tarlac City to Aliaga, Nueva Ecija is set to open on May 15, 2021. The said road is the first phase of the four-lane, 30-kilometer Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX).

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said that the first phase of the CLLEX will be toll-free. The first phase of the CLLEX is an 18-kilometer road that stretches from Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) in Tarlac City, up to Aliaga Interchange in Nueva Ecija.

Villar added that the said expressway will cater to around 11,200 motorists and commuters daily. It’s also intended to ease traffic at Daang Maharlika Highway.

“We are seeing a quality infrastructure that will benefit around 11,200 motorists and commuters daily and ease traffic at Daang Maharlika Highway about to be delivered by the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administration,” Villar said.

Once completed, the 30-kilometer CLLEX is said to cut travel time significantly between Tarlac City and Cabanatuan City from 70 minutes to just 20 minutes.

Villar along with other public works officials have inspected the expressway’s construction progress. Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain shared a status report as to the completion of the CLLEX.

Sadain said that the 4.10 km Tarlac Section and the 6.40 km Rio Chico River Bridge Section are already completed. On the other hand, the 9.20 km Aliaga Section is 78.5 percent complete while the 10.3 km Cabanatuan Section is at 85 percent.

Central Luzon Link Expressway is part of the Build, Build, Build program

The CLLEX is a Php 11.8 billion expressway project that is part of the government’s and the agency’s Build, Build, Build program. The said program is driven to develop the provinces through connective infrastructure that will cut down travel time. Moreover, the program is said to help farmers from the Philippines’ rice granary of Nueva Ecija in delivering their crops to markets of Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
