A more powerful engine is the reason for the switch.

Subaru Philippines recently announced that the all-new WRX Wagon will make its Philippine debut in early June 2022. It will arrive alongside the WRX sedan, strengthening the Japanese marque’s performance-oriented offerings in the country.

To make room for another wagon in the local lineup, an executive from Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. (MIPI), Subaru’s official Philippine distributor, confirmed that the new WRX Wagon will be replacing the first-gen Levorg. This move will put an end to the latter’s nameplate locally, which was introduced in 2015.

MIPI explains that it chose the WRX Wagon over the Levorg because the new model offers a more powerful engine. The upcoming wagon uses the same 2.4-liter FA24F turbo engine found in its sedan counterpart, compared to the Levorg's 2.0-liter power unit. No official specifications have been released for the PH-spec model. But in other markets, the said engine makes 271 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.

The engine will be paired exclusively to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) with eight simulated gears, while the upcoming WRX sedan will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Regardless, both versions utilize the brand’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Aside from a more powerful engine, the WRX Wagon will be offering a more refined driving experience thanks to its use of the Subaru Global Platform (SGP). It provides a 28-percent enhancement in torsional rigidity, a 75-percent increase in suspension rigidity, and a 40-percent increase in impact energy absorption.

The said upgrades also deliver a more comfortable ride, enhanced agility and crash avoidance, and lower center gravity, along with improved noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Subaru Philippines will offer the WRX Wagon CVT at Php 2,558,000, a Php 460,000 increase over the outgoing Levorg. The new wagon entry will also be available in the tS trim (via indent order only) which will provide more enhanced driving characteristics.
