Subaru has announced the model lineup that its motorsports division will be showing off at the upcoming 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon in January. While most of these are either race cars or concepts, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) cars will also display a new Subaru Impreza STI of sorts.
How the Subaru booth will look like at the upcoming 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon
As disclosed by Subaru itself, this specific car is a prototype that’s fitted with STI parts that are currently in development. Furthermore, the base car for the prototype is the current US-market Impreza which was revealed a couple of months ago at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show.
This is particularly interesting, as this prototype might herald or even form the basis of an all-new true-blue Subaru Impreza STI model. But as with any speculations from us, do take this with a healthy grain of salt.
Subaru also didn’t provide any details about the Impreza STI model’s mechanical bits for that matter. We’re also guessing that the one that will appear at Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 might be a design mockup as well. So for now, think of it as a preview of what’s to come from STI if you will.
Also making an appearance at the said event is the Levorg STI Sport. Unlike the prototype Impreza STI, this one Subaru says, is a complete STI car based on the Levorg STI R EX that’s currently sold in Japan.
All the Subarus that will appear at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon
There are a couple of concept cars that will be shown off as well. These are the Crosstrek Boost Gear Concept based on the Japanese-spec Subaru Crosstrek, and the Rex Boost Gear Concept based on the Japanese model Subaru Rex. Both are kitted out with what Subaru describes as adventure-ready gear.
Two race cars will also make an appearance at the Subaru STI booth at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. These include the Subaru WRX race car for the upcoming 2023 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race (NBR), and another WRX built to compete at the Japanese Rally Championship 2023. Last but not the least is the Subaru BRZ which already showed its stuff in the Super GT 2022 series championship under the GT300 class.
