Porsche shows up big time whenever the automaker brings its cars to the famed Nürburgring circuit. The carmaker’s latest feat is the incredible lap time of 6:49.328 minutes clocked by the new 911 GT3 RS.

The Porsche 911 with the GT3 spec means that it has the 4.0-liter flat-6 naturally-aspirated engine, making 518 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, along with the RS moniker comes a new aerodynamic package that helped the sports car achieve the aforementioned lap time, including the biggest spoiler ever put on a 911.
Excluding the T13 Section, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS completed the lap in 6:44.848 minutes, which is 10.9 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3. The lap time also officially makes it the fastest naturally-aspirated car to go around the German track as of this writing.

The 911 GT3 RS is faster than the Lamborghini Aventador, which has done it in 6:44.97 minutes. The latter has significantly more muscle with its 6.5-liter V12 NA engine, which makes 759 horsepower. Moreover, the GT3 RS is only 1.2 seconds off from the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, a 720-hp sports car that is currently the second fastest on the track.
This goes to show that horsepower isn’t everything when going for a flying lap. The aero system on the 911 GT3 RS is active, generating downforce that allows faster corner speeds. It also comes with a DRS (drag reduction system) installed that can be activated by either the car (depending on the inputs) or its driver, Jorg Bergmeister.
Another top-tier performance from Porsche
“We lost a little downforce due to the strong, sometimes gusting wind, but I’m still very happy with the lap,” said Bergmeister. “In the fast sections, in particular, the 911 GT3 RS is in a league of its own. Here it’s on a level usually reserved for top-class cars. The car is also setting new standards in braking. Fast laps on Nordschleife are simply so much fun in this car.”
