A total of 56 motoring journalists from 40 countries tested and evaluated dozens of models to determine the 2022 WWCOTY. In the first round of voting, the best cars in each category were chosen which include the following:
- Peugeot 308 (Best Urban Car)
- Kia Sportage (Best Family SUV)
- BMW iX (Best Large SUV)
- Ford Mach-E (Best Family Car)
- Audi e-tron GT (Best Performance Car)
- Jeep Wrangler 4xe (Best 4x4)
The said models were used as the basis for the selection of the 2022 WWCOTY. In the end, the Peugeot 308 was crowned with the prestigious award.
2022 Women's World Car of the Year
The WWCOTY award is not given to the car that is best suited as the “woman’s car” as this segment doesn’t exist. It is an international award that gives a voice to the women in the motoring world. Here are some of what the jurors had to say:
“This year’s voting was closer than ever,” said Marta Garcia, Executive President of WWCOTY. “The jurors had their work cut out for them because each of the candidates represented the best of their segment.”
“It is easy to drive even in the narrow streets of Japan. Its turbo engine is extraordinary and quiet,” said Etsuko Kusuda, Japan.
“All in all, the 308 is a reliable and predictable car, without being boring. It steers directly and has a very short turning circle, which is ideal for the city. Peugeot has thought about the best driving position for the driver,” said Rowan Peperkamp, Netherlands.
The competition wasn't easy
Peugeot 308 is a small car that has been around in the French automaker’s lineup since 2007. The latest iteration of the model is now on its third generation, coming with a sleeker appearance and a battery-electric version soon.
In Peugeot Philippines’ lineup, the award-winning model is not made available. But, the company offers two vehicles, namely the 3008 and 5008. The Peugeot 3008 is a compact crossover that recently made its local debut, while the 5008 is the car brand’s 7-seater offering.
