The Omoda 5 crossover will spearhead the brand’s local operations.

As Chinese automakers continue to strengthen their presence locally, more fellow car brands are encouraged to enter our market. Omoda is the latest to do so as it will arrive in the country this year.

Omoda 5

According to reports, Omoda is looking to start operations by October 2023. Despite being a brand under Chery that focuses on appealing to younger car buyers, Omoda will reportedly not be distributed by United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), the Philippine distributor of Chery and Foton.

The official distributor is yet to be finalized. But what we do know for now is that the Omoda 5 will be the Chinese automaker’s first model to be launched in the local market. It is a five-seater compact crossover featuring a sporty exterior and premium-looking interior.

Interior of the Omoda 5

Exterior-wise, the Omoda 5 comes with a frameless grille design, T-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), 18-inch alloy wheels, a floating roof design, and fastback bodywork. Also, the red accents that surround the vehicle add sportiness to the finish.

The Omoda 5 spans 4,400mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,585mm in height, as well as has a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 2,630mm and 190mm, respectively.

Feature-packed compact crossover

Moving into the cabin, the dashboard houses the fully-digital instrument gauge cluster and infotainment touchscreen. Providing plushness inside are features such as ambient lighting, a sunroof, bronze accents, and perforated eco-leather bucket seats.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine capable of generating 144 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) sends power from the engine to the front wheels.

Omoda is expected to join the Philippine market this 2023

Take note that the equipment mentioned above is based on the global model. The official specs should be revealed closer to the brand’s Philippine debut.

A report published in Carguide.ph said that the Omoda 5 will be offered for under Php 1.5 million. In the future, the company plans include the introduction of two new models and hybrids including plug-in hybrid cars.
