Chery Auto PH set sights on bigger surprises after solid run in 2022

It has been a busy 2022 for Chery.

Chery Auto Philippines had a busy calendar last 2022 as it held several model launches, media drives, and mall displays, among others.

The car brand’s event-filled year kicked off last February 2022 as Chery Auto PH held its very first Dealer Appreciation Ceremony in a virtual telecast. It was Chery Alabang that took home the Dealer of the Year in Chery’s inaugural GRIT Awards.  

By April, Chery Auto PH is among the car brands that participated in the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), which is the show’s return due to the pandemic. This also marked Chery Auto PH’s first participation in MIAS, and the car brand took advantage of it by launching the Tiggo 8 Pro lineup. It was also at the 2022 MIAS where Chery previewed the Tiggo 5x Pro.

The car brand then held a ride-and-drive event in May and June, featuring the two variants of the Tiggo 8 Pro: the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T, and the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. Chery invited media partners and content creators in a two-leg "Conquering the Summit" Media Drive up and down Mt. Samat. 

Another drive was organized by Chery in June featuring Tiggo owners. This drive to Tagaytay Highlands is meant to strengthen Chery’s relationship with its clients.

By September, Chery officially joined the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI), which allowed the car brand to showcase its model lineup at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). It was during PIMS that it launched the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0T.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T was awarded as C! Magazine’s Best Midsized Crossover while the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV bagged the Best Hybrid Award.

It was also in September 2022 when Chery Commonwealth dealership opened for business. It is the car brand’s 23rd dealership in the Philippines which is managed by the company’s dealer partner, Luzon Industry Movers Inc. (LIMI).

Another Chery Tiggo Club Drive was held in November to celebrate the car brand’s third anniversary in the Philippines. Owners of all Tiggo models and variants as well as select members of the media joined the drive to Ayala Greenfield Golf & Leisure Club. 

Chery Auto PH had not just been busy with motoring events and launches but it also had a good run in the field of sports. The Chery Tiggo Crossovers women's professional volleyball team was able to successfully land a fourth place overall finish at the recently concluded Philippine Volleyball League 2022 (PVL 2022).

The car brand wrapped up the Chery World of Luxury Mall Tour that kicked off in July. The said tour showcased the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T, and the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV in 10 different malls in Metro Manila. The World of Luxury Tour offered a bespoke experience to booth visitors and test drive participants.

"Eleven major events and achievements in 2022 are just the tips of the iceberg in CHERY Auto Philippines' activities and efforts. The success and growth that the brand has achieved in just three years is spurring us to greater heights," shared Chery Auto Philippines President Erroll Dueñas. 

"But we're far from accomplishing our goals. We have a whole roster of new models and programs to roll out after the New Year. Expect even more and bigger surprises from CHERY in 2023!," added Dueñas.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro

The Tiggo 8 Pro 2023 is a seven-seater midsize crossover. In the local market, this model has two different variants, the Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6 AT, and the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. The Pro 1.6T AT is priced at Php 1,698,000, while the PHEV variant can be had for Php 2,500,000.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 Pro gets two engine options. For the top-spec PHEV trim, it uses a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbo gasoline engine that’s paired with an electric motor, as well as a battery. In total, this hybrid powertrain can produce up to 155 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This variant then uses a hybrid gearbox.

The non-hybrid version meanwhile, gets a 1.6-liter inline-4 turbo gasoline engine that’s good for 195 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. This version then gets a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Size wise, it is 4,722mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,745mm tall. It also has a wheelbase length of 2710mm.

Locally, the Tiggo 8 Pro competes against the Maxus D90, Honda CR-V, Kaicene CX70, Geely Okavango, GAC GS8, among others.
