The production version will bear a different name.

Honda officially launched 2020 Honda City in Thailand late last year, boasting a revised exterior design, new features, and upgraded engines.

Not long after, patent images of its hatchback sibling were leaked online as grayscale CAD drawings. Indian Autos Blog has taken these drawings and transformed them into full-color renders to give us an idea of what the Honda City hatchback could look like.

Ditching the trunk, the upcoming variant sports a 2-box design. Everything is pretty much the same as the Honda City sedan version up until the B-pillar. Past the driver’s seat however, the hatchback takes on design elements from the fifth-generation Honda CR-V, especially the rear quarter windows and C-pillar.

The interior will likely be the same as the sedan’s, offering an ergonomic layout with premium functions such as a multi-information driver display, 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and automatic climate control. The only expected difference is a slightly different color palette.

A couple of engine options are also likely: a 1.0L turbocharged VTEC mated to a CVT, and 1.5L naturally-aspirated version working in concert with either a CVT or a manual transmission.

The new variant will be known by a different name on its public launch, and will be competing with the likes of the Hyundai i30 in ASEAN and Latin American markets.

As of this writing, Honda has yet to announce when the new model will be revealed. With the size and styling similarities to another Honda hatchback, would you go for this, or the Honda Jazz?
