The Department of Transportation (DOTr) previously said that it is committed to make the Metro Rail Transit 7 or MRT-7 operational by 2022. To make way for the construction works, the eastbound portion of North Avenue in Quezon City will be closed to traffic until June next year.
The MRT-7 is expected to be completed next year
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that a portion of North Avenue going to Elliptical Road will be closed starting October 15, 2021, Friday. The closed section of North Avenue is expected to reopen on June 1, 2022.
According to the MMDA, vehicles bound for the Wildlife Center, and the Veterans Memorial Medical Center can still pass through North Avenue. On the other hand, the MMDA said that vehicles going to the Elliptical Road may take Quezon Avenue via Agham Road as an alternative route.

The MMDA added that the closed section of North Avenue would have less impact on traffic. This is because of the fact that the said portion had already been closed previously. As a review, the southbound and northbound lanes along North Avenue and West Avenue are temporarily closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. This has been implemented since July, and it is expected to last until October.
The MRT-7 is a project of the DOTr and San Miguel Corporation, which costs an estimated Php 62.7 billion. The railway has a total length of 22.8 kilometers that links North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan. The MRT-7 is said to have 14 stations, and it is expected to accommodate up to 850,000 passengers on a daily basis.
The first batch of MRT-7 train sets are already in the Philippines
The MRT-7 will also reduce travel time from Quezon City to Bulacan from three hours to just 35 minutes. The first batch of train sets for the MRT-7 is already here in the country since last September. The trains were obtained from Hyundai Rotem, a South Korean manufacturing plant company under the Hyundai Motor Group.
