Striving to provide a safe and secure road for all.

NLEX Corporation announced that it has ramped up the safety of its expressways as it implements the Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS) or ISO 39001. With this, motorists who will traverse NLEX expressways can expect stricter road rules, sturdier road structures, and trained enforcers to man the roads.

Speed monitoring system is enforced in its expressways

The programs undertaken by the toll road company to improve safety include maintenance and upgrade of NLEX-SCTEX assets and facilities, implementation of traffic laws, and conduct lectures and distribute materials on safe driving practices to motorists along its expressways.

“Road safety counts as one of the customer value propositions we offer to motorists, that is why we take all our safety programs to heart. Establishing and upholding the RTSMS will help the organization improve its road safety performance,” said NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.

Improving the expressways mean safer travels for motorists

Toll plazas in Balintawak and Bocaue have been upgraded to mitigate damage to fixed structures, vehicles, and people arising from vehicular collisions. Moreover, median guardrails were also installed at the SCTEX, while speed monitoring system, automatic license plate recognition, and weigh-in-motion devices are enforced in the expressways.

Another road safety campaign NLEX Corporation rolls out occasionally to improve safety is the “Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko” motorist assistance program. The said program is conducted during peak travel seasons.

More assets are expected to be improved

To continuously fund the safety enhancements, NLEX Corporation recently increased the toll fees in its expressways by two to three percent. One of its ongoing repairs includes the rehabilitation of the Meycauayan and Bigaa bridges which were built way back in the 1960s so the company knew that safety improvements must be undertaken.

“Through our programs, we want to exemplify the culture of safety that we want to instill among our motorists and our other stakeholders,” concluded Bautista.

NLEX Corp. added that the tollway company was recertified for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001 2018 for the effective implementation of its integrated management systems (IMS) on quality, environment, and occupational health and safety.
