Nissan has unveiled its fourth electric vehicle (EV) concept for the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (formerly known as Tokyo Auto Show) called the Hyper Punk concept. From the name alone, we can already tell the Japanese automaker went for a rebellious design that shies away from conventional styling.

The theme of the concept car’s design is multifaceted and polygonal. This is apparent on the strong character lines on the side complemented by the very short overhangs and 23-inch wheels with a triangular pattern. Nissan made full use of the character lines by subtly integrating them with the vehicle’s headlights.
Inside, the crossover EV concept is designed with origami-styled elements that mirror Japanese taste. It is also said to “create an interior space where digital and art are fused together.” The cabin comes with onboard cameras that can take a photo of the vehicle’s surroundings and convert it to a manga-style scenery or graphic patterns using AI (artificial intelligence).

But that’s not all. The cabin is also equipped with more innovative technologies such as a linking capability that allows occupants to use their devices for content creation. It also has AI and headrest biosensors that can detect the driver’s mood and select more fitting music and lighting to boost creativity.
No performance figures were shared but Nissan did say the Hyper Punk concept supports V2X (vehicle-to-everything) system. This means the EV can transfer electric energy from the battery to anything like the grid or home. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a similar technology called V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) but they are limited to certain entities only.
This concept is making an appearance in the Fortnite video game
The Nissan Hyper Punk concept will be joining the brand’s other EV concepts including the Hyper Urban, Hyper Adventure, and Hyper Tourer. These vehicles will be exhibited at Nissan’s booth at the JMS happening from October 25 to November at the Tokyo Big Sight in Japan.
Apart from the auto show, the Hyper Punk concept will be available on the online game Fortnite under the name “Electrify the World” for exploring the open-world-style video game.
