Nissan announced that it will soon introduce a new GT-R intended for the Japanese market only. No specification and pricing have been officially revealed just yet but one can expect that the upcoming vehicle will be the GT-R NISMO Special Edition which was unveiled earlier this year.

Catch it live

The Nissan GT-R NISMO Special Edition is highlighted by a new stealth gray body color that is complemented by a clear-coated carbon-fiber hood finish. With this, the new paint scheme reduces 100 grams of the vehicle’s overall weight, providing enhancements on both cosmetics and performance.

Speaking of performance, the special edition version is powered by the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine capable of generating 592 hp and 652 Nm of torque. It gets improvements on its piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, and valve springs. The power is sent to all wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

To showcase its high-performance NISMO branding, the GT-R Special Edition is finished with red subtle accents around the vehicle including on its exclusive 20-inch Rays forged wheels. The active-damper suspension is also NISMO-tuned to provide a smoother cornering even when speeding on the track.

Again, no official specifications have been released by the Japanese carmaker for the upcoming GT-R so the said features can still vary. As of this writing, the new GT-R is confirmed to be available first in Japan, with no indicated plans of exporting it to other markets such as in the US.

Arguably the most iconic nameplate from Nissan

Interested individuals may catch its unveiling on Nissan’s official YouTube channel. The live launch event of the new sports car will start on September 14 at 1:30 p.m. Philippine Time (PHT).

This upcoming Nissan GT-R for the Japanese market will likely be the second to the last version of the long-time running R35 before the brand releases its Final Edition. By early 2023, Nissan is expected to release the next generation of its iconic nameplate which should be called the R36.
