The upgrades will put them on a better footing against the competition.

More spy shots of the upcoming next-generation Ford Ranger and Everest have emerged in Australia, and it appears that the two rigs will have more than just altered exterior designs.

2022 Ford Ranger & Everest (Endeavour): 15.5-inch Tesla-style screen spied, hybrid, V6 coming!

Australian motoring website CarExpert uploaded fresh video taken by one of its readers on its YouTube channel, showing both the Blue Oval brand’s midsize pickup and SUV clad in camouflaged bodywork. There are several details that the disguise failed to conceal, which should have fans of the two models eagerly anticipating their arrival.

One of those features is a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen at the center of the dashboard, similar to that currently used by the Mustang Mach-E electric compact crossover. The display incorporates infotainment along with climate controls and is believed to be running the latest Ford SYNC 4 operating system. This will likely be reserved for the flagship variants, with lower trim levels getting a smaller 12-inch interface.

The same vertical touchscreen used by the Mustang Mach-E could make an appearance

Another revelation is the presence of a 360-degree camera system, which will go well with the generously sized screen. What looks like high-resolution cameras were spotted mounted on the exterior mirrors, and this will help Ford get a leg up on its competitors in both segments.

On the underbody, there has been no confirmation whether Ford will retain the rear leaf spring suspension that’s standard on the current generation of the Ranger or go for a coil-spring setup used on the Ranger Raptor. Rear disc brakes are apparent, but again, these might be exclusively for the range-topping trims.

The new Ranger and Raptor might get a 360-degree camera array as standard

For the Australian market, Ford will be retiring its current 3.2-liter inline-5 turbodiesel engine. The 2.0-liter bi-turbo oil burner rated at 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque will be the default option, albeit with a slight power bump, mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, there are three new power plants that could be coming to the stable:

  • A 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbo gasoline V6 used in the Bronco, good for 325 hp and 542 Nm of torque
  • A 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 lifted from the U.S.-spec F-150, capable of 249 hp and 600 Nm of torque
  • A 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline inline-4 with a plug-in hybrid system, packing 362 hp and 680 Nm of torque

Ford Australia has declined to comment on specific plans and features about the upcoming new Ranger and Everest, only saying that the two models will still be designed and engineered Down Under.
