SAIC Motor Philippines, the official distributor of MG vehicles in the country, announced that the Cyberster is confirmed to make its Philippine debut within the first half of 2024. The Cyberster is MG’s electric sports car featuring a striking exterior and premium-looking interior.
However, the specs and pricing of the PH-bound MG Cyberster are yet to be revealed by SAIC Motor PH. The exact launch date has also not been shared by the Chinese car brand. Although, the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), which is usually held in April, could be one of the options that SAIC Motor PH is considering in regards to the local debut of the MG Cyberster. SAIC could also launch the MG Cyberster in time for the car brand’s 100th anniversary in 2024.
When it comes to specs, the MG Cyberster for the Chinese market comes in two variants. The entry-level trim comes with a single motor that can produce 314 horsepower along with a rear-wheel-drive layout.
Meanwhile, the top-spec variant can generate 536 hp and 727 Nm of torque with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) layout consisting of a 204-hp front electric motor and a 340-hp rear electric motor. MG also claims that the Cyberster electric sports car can go from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.
The MG Cyberster is also equipped with a 77kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers a range of 580 kilometers, based on the China light-duty vehicle test cycle-rated (CLTC).
Aside from its striking exterior that’s further highlighted by the car’s scissor doors, the MG Cyberster’s chassis was developed by former Ferrari Formula 1 chassis dynamics engineer Marco Fainello. The former F1 engineer worked on adjusting the Cyberster’s chassis including the suspension to provide a spirited driving experience.
The premium-looing cabin of the MG Cyberster has a driver-oriented layout. It comes with a flat-bottomed steering, a Bose sound system, and a curved unified screen that dominates the dashboard. The said screens come with an Unreal Engine 4.0 system that promises a 3D immersive interaction as well as an award-winning Zebra Cyber operating system (OS).
Other than the Cyberster, SAIC Motor PH also previewed the MG One, which is a compact crossover. The MG One is also confirmed to be launched in the Philippines in the first half of 2024.
SAIC Motor PH added that it will be launching eight new models by 2025 with the MG Cyberster and MG One as the first two vehicles.
