MG Philippines is set to expand its electric-powered crossover variant lineup with the reveal of the Marvel R AWD. It is priced at Php 2,888,888 and it was showcased at the 2023 Philippines Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS).

Appearance-wise, it gets the same elegant looks as the rear-wheel-drive Marvel R Alpha variant. It also comes standard with LED headlamps, a sharp-looking LED daytime running light bar, a sleek side portion with flush door handles, an LED bar taillight, and an angular rear portion equipped with a power tailgate, among others.
The interior likewise comes with an identical feature set as the Alpha with its Nappa leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with cooling and heating, and automatic climate control, among other features.
Entertainment aboard this EV crossover is provided by a 19.3-inch touchscreen that’s made out of Corning Gorilla Glass. Smartphone connectivity is done via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while charging is made easy thanks to a number of type C USB ports and a wireless charging pad. In place of the Alpha’s generic sound system, the AWD trim gets a better Bose sound system. The driver meanwhile, gets a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
As per its name, this new variant of the Marvel R gets an all-wheel-drive layout. Based on the Euro-spec version of the Marvel R AWD, this is achieved thanks to the addition of an electronic motor to its front wheels. As such, the power output for this trim has also increased to 284 horsepower and 665 Nm of torque enabling the crossover to reach zero to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The Philippine-spec 2024 MG Marvel R Alpha
For your reference, the entry-level Alpha trim makes a comparatively modest 183 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. Note though that while the AWD trim is significantly more powerful, it has a lesser range of 370 kilometers compared to the Alpha’s 402 km range. This is because it uses the same 70-kWh battery as the Alpha variant despite making significantly more power.
The additional motor also eliminates the front trunk, which on the Alpha can hold an additional 150 liters of cargo space.
The Marvel R AWD, as mentioned above, will retail at Php 2,888,888. That’s Php 300,000 more compared to the Alpha but that kind of performance is just hard to ignore.

MG Marvel R Launch
The MG Marvel R was launched in the Philippine market in October 2023 with its sole variant being the Alpha, which as of its introduction to the local market, retailed at Php 2,588,888.
MG Marvel R Exterior
On the outside, the Marvel R gets a stylish look thanks to its sloped roofline and sculpted character lines. Enhancing its look are a pair of sharp-looking LED daytime running lamps, and chrome trim pieces.
The main illumination for this model is provided by an angular LED headlamp cluster and an LED taillight bar. It likewise gets a roof-mounted spoiler and a pair of roof rails. Completing its look is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels.
When it comes to size, the Marvel R is 4,674mm long, 1,919mm wide, and 1,618mm in height. It also has a wheelbase spanning 2,804mm.
MG Marvel R Interior
Step inside the Marvel R and one will find enough space for up to five occupants. Most surfaces are clad in leather and are likewise decorated with bits of chrome.
For the driver, the EV provides a digital gauge cluster, a push-to-start button, an electronic parking brake toggle, a dial-type gear selector, a drive mode selector, and a regenerative braking toggle.

Safety for the MG Marvel R is handled by a total of six airbags, anti-lock braking with electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control, traction control, hill-hold control, and cornering brake control, among others.
Its standard safety kit is supported by a number of advanced driver-assist technologies. This includes intelligent speed alert, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Within its class, the MG Marvel R is one of the more affordable options. Despite that, it has all the necessary bits that make it on par with its rivals. It has a peppy powertrain, a decent range, and a well-appointed interior.
