The Vios subcompact sedan remains a best-seller for Toyota Philippines, and the model’s success isn’t confined to our shores. It’s also a solid favorite in our ASEAN neighbors especially Vietnam and Malaysia, and the strong sales for the latter are likely due in part to the availability of a particular exterior hue.
Malaysia-spec Toyota Vios units have vibrant color options with Orange Metallic and Nebula Blue Metallic
Vios units sold in Malaysia are available in Orange Metallic, one of the options in a range of colors comprising Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Nebula Blue Metallic (which replaces the Dark Blue Metallic in use since 2019). Truth be told, the orange shade lends an air of youthful sportiness to the model, reminiscent of its first generation when it had slightly more modest dimensions.
It certainly makes the hot-selling subcompact sedan look more dynamic than usual
The Malaysia-spec Vios shares the new blue hue with the Corolla Cross, which will be available as a locally assembled model in that market early next year. Interestingly, neither the Orange Metallic nor Nebula Blue Metallic are offered on the sedan’s Yaris platform twin, sold only in white, red, and silver.
In the Philippines at least, Toyota dropped the orange color from the roster when it introduced the current generation’s first facelift, probably in an attempt to market the Vios as a more grown-up version of itself. But it seems that the carmaker’s sales winner has rediscovered its more dynamic character with the arrival of the second facelift (as well as the introduction of the GR-S variant).
Apart from the color, no changes have been made to the list of standard features
Currently, our local-spec Vios is sold in no less than 10 variants with nine exterior colors (Super White, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, Super Red, Blackish Red Mica, Grayish Blue Mica Metallic, Black, and Alumina Jade Metallic). Now that the Orange Metallic option is still alive and well as far as our Southeast Asian neighbor is concerned, would you want the color to make a comeback here?
