The Land Transportation Office has announced once again, an extension for the validity of car registrations. This time, cars with plates that end with the number “7” can now have their registrations renewed until August 31, 2022.
The announcement from LTO
Of note, cars ending in the said number are usually scheduled to renew their registrations in July, when the said cars’ registrations will typically expire.
With this registration extension, those with plate numbers ending in 7 will now have an additional month to prepare. This of course can be helpful for many Filipinos, since a month might be enough for most to save up and pay for the needed registration renewal fees. This is especially true now that more of their budgets have been skewed towards buying fuel which has since skyrocketed in price starting a couple of months ago.
And yes, there’s also the upward trend in COVID-19 cases in the country. By stretching out the registration validities, the LTO says that it may help prevent overcrowding in LTO branches, which we all know by now can cause a higher chance of COVID transmission.
Speaking of which, this is the latest registration extension announced by the LTO. This follows the previous one wherein cars with plates ending in 6 have until July 31, 2022 to renew. Likewise, this prior extension was prompted by the rise in COVID-19 cases as well.
It's a safe bet that more registration extentions will come
Like with the other registration extensions before, no penalties will be collected for late registrations, as long as one can process their registration renewal before the date stated.
Then again, the LTO is encouraging motorists to have their cars registered even before the extended deadline whenever possible.
Last but not least, do remember that the validity of driver’s licenses, conductor’s licenses, as well as student permits that are expiring by July 2022 have likewise been extended until August 2022.
