More car registration validity extensions.

Recently, the Land Transportation Office (NCR) has announced another extension for car registrations. This time, those with motor vehicles with plates ending with “3” will have until April 30, 2022 to renew their registrations.

The LTO's official post regarding the latest car registration extension

Usually, cars with plates ending in “3” are required to renew their registrations in March. But despite the recent downgrade to the less strict Alert Level 1 status as of March 2022, it can be understood that this extension seeks to provide ample time for motorists to process their registration renewals. Many, after all, are still affected one way or another by the pandemic.

Consider also that while most LTO branches are now operational, the prevailing health and safety regulations put in place in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 are still in effect. These in turn might have some effects on the flow of the registration process, and thus the number of motorists/customers a particular LTO branch can deal with at a time.

In connection to the aforementioned, the LTO is continuing to urge those visiting their branches to strictly follow minimum safety protocols. This means physical distancing, and the donning of face masks. It might also be a good idea to bring one’s COVID-19 vaccination card when visiting your nearest LTO branch.

This extension means ample time for motorists to renew their motor vehicle registrations

Of note, the extension of motor vehicle registrations has been enacted by the LTO since the start of the pandemic back in March 2020. Prior to the latest one, the agency also extended the registration validity of cars with plates ending with “2” until March 31, 2022.

Before that, cars with plates ending in “1” were also given an extended registration validity until February 28, 2022.

As for other cars with plates ending in 4, 5, 6, etc., the LTO is yet to announce if it will indeed stretch out their registration validity. This however, will depend on how the COVID-19 pandemic will play out in the local setting in the coming months.
