In consideration of the quarantine restrictions.

Ever since the start of 2021, the Land of Transportation (LTO) has been extending the vehicle registration renewal depending on plate numbers. This type of arrangement is implemented by the government agency to avoid large crowds at its offices as social distancing must be practiced at all times.

The year is now coming to an end and the LTO is still extending the registration validity of plate numbers. This time, the extension applies to those vehicles with a plate number ending in 0 up to December 31, 2021.

Based on the announcement by the government agency, it did not specify the exact reason for the extension. However, one can say that it is done to accommodate those vehicles with a plate number ending in 7 as they were extended as well up to October 31, 2021. Moreover, the registration validity of plate numbers ending in 8 and 9 is extended until October 31 and November 31, respectively.

Be advised

The restrictions per LTO branch may vary considering that the government has rolled out the granular lockdown scheme and five alert levels. This aims to enforce quarantine restrictions in small yet critical areas.

As such, motorists who plan to renew their vehicle’s registration should know the alert level implemented by their respective local government units (LGUs).

Lockdowns have forced LTO to extend motor registration validity

As of this writing, the Palace expects the alert level in the National Capital Region (NCR) to downgrade to Alert Level 3 from Level 4 as the COVID-19 situation is showing signs of improvement. This means that more motorists are expected to be able to attend to their mandated registration renewal dates.

LTO reminded motorists who will visit its branches to follow its safety protocols including the use of face masks so that their renewal transactions won’t be interrupted. In turn, following safety protocols can help curb the COVID-19 cases in the country.
