Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Guillermo Eleazar is prepping for the upcoming Undas 2021 by instructing unit commanders to ensure safety during the two-day event. Considering that COVID-19 still poses huge threats especially in huge gatherings such as Undas, early security measures are being outlined.

To do just that, Eleazar orders PNP to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) to ensure a safe and secured event on November 1 and 2. Eleazar said that he expects chiefs of police to plan ahead of time with respective LGUs to keep cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbarium safe from coronavirus disease.
Last month, the government introduced the granular lockdown and new five alert levels to enforce quarantine restrictions in small yet critical areas dubbed as pilot areas. This will help the PNP determine how it should go about its security operations in specific areas during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
Based on the Undas last year, some LGUs were forced to close down cemeteries and memorial parks in anticipation of the influx of people. As of this writing, there’s no official word regarding the type of restrictions that LGUs will be implemented for this year’s Undas.

But on the days that visits to cemeteries will be allowed, Eleazar noted that the police will strictly monitor the movement of people and guarantee that the minimum health standards will be followed. This is one of the many ways the PNP is showing to help curb the COVID-19 cases in the country.
“Nagawa na natin ito noong nakaraang taon kaya’t nasisiguro kong magagampanan ulit nang maayos ng ating kapulisan ang kanila tungkulin sa panahon ng Undas,” said PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
(We already did these last year so I am sure our police officers will be able to perform their duty during Undas.)
