The Stonic is arriving in the Philippines this year as Kia Philippines confirmed it with a teaser. The five-seater Korean subcompact crossover is set to make its debut in the local market in the fourth quarter of 2020.

This means that the Kia Stonic will go head to head with the likes of the Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Mazda CX-3, among others once it arrives in the country. This vehicle sits below the Kia Seltos, which has been in the local market since November 2019.

The Kia Stonic was first revealed in 2017, and it was designed in Europe taking some inspiration from the Kia Provo concept that was introduced in 2013.

As such, the Kia Stonic stands out with its two-tone paint finish that’s available in the global market with a wide range of color combinations along with a choice of five roof colors. The Stonic’s fascia is fitted with Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille along with sharp-looking headlights.

The Korean car brand said that the Stonic is built using a lightweight advanced high strength steel, which ensures driving confidence and contributes to the overall driver and passenger comfort.

Under the hood, the global spec Stonic is powered by a range of gasoline and diesel engines. What’s surprising is that the Kia Stonic seems to be only available with a manual transmission option.

The automatic transmission option, on the other hand, is only available for the 1.0-liter engine. Here are the engine options for the global spec Stonic:

  • 1.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine (118 hp and 172 Nm of torque)
  • 1.25-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine (83 hp and 122 Nm)
  • 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine (99 hp and 133 Nm)
  • 1.6-liter diesel engine (109 hp and 260 Nm)

Comparing the numbers, the Kia Stonic’s turbocharged engine can relatively match against its segment rivals in the local market. We still don’t know what will be the Stonic’s local spec but it will be interesting if the 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline and the 1.6-liter diesel engines are made available here.
