Honda is taking its time when it comes to introducing more electric vehicle (EV) models in its portfolio. The Japanese automaker just revealed its second next-generation EV in Europe called the e:Ny1.
Honda e:Ny1
The Honda e:Ny1 is an all-electric subcompact crossover underpinned by the brand’s newly-developed e:N Architecture F. It follows the automaker’s first EV model, the Honda e, which is an all-electric hatchback with cutesy styling.
For the new model, the Honda e:Ny1 gets a familiar design as the current HR-V iteration but in the form of an electrified vehicle. The front fascia comes with a grille-less finish, with Honda debuting an all-new electric identity through the white ‘H’ badges around the car.
The sides and rear should look familiar to those who have seen the Honda HR-V. It even gets the two-door crossover look brought by the hidden door handles for the second row. But the new model still has distinctive elements including the “HONDA” lettering on the tailgate and the e:Ny1 badge.
The e:Ny1 aims to deliver a refined drive like any other Honda cars
Moving into the cabin, Honda ensures “remarkable interior space and comfort” thanks to its clever packaging of the EV components. It is equipped with a 15.1-inch vertical touchscreen, providing access to infotainment and driving option controls.
Powering the e:Ny1 is a three-in-one integrated power drive unit, electric motor, and gearbox, making 201 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. It can run up to 412 km on a single charge and go from 10 to 80 percent of charge in 45 minutes through DC fast-charging.
“The e:Ny1 is the logical next step on our electrification journey in Europe,” said Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President at Honda Motor Europe Ltd.
“Our development philosophy blends intelligent, customer-centric technology with beautiful design and fun-to-drive dynamics. This latest SUV exemplifies Honda’s commitment to electrification and is the latest step on Honda’s electrification journey,” added Gardner.
It looks like the HR-V's twin
Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) currently doesn’t have plans to bring in an EV so we might not see the e:Ny1 anytime soon. But the company is looking to expand its electrification efforts by introducing e:HEV hybrid models as promised by HCPI President Rie Miyake when she took office last March 2023.
