Leaked photos and engine details emerged online.

The prototype version of the 11th-generation 2022 Civic was virtually revealed by Honda late last year. It features a sleeker and a more mature styling as compared to the aggressive look seen on the 10th-generation Honda Civic.

11th-generation Honda Civic Prototype Quick Look: More matured and subdued?

The exterior of the 2022 Honda Civic prototype comes with a different aura and personality. It gave most people the impression that the Civic has come to maturity and it’s ready to take a step forward. But then again, the Civic we saw last November 2020 was just a prototype and the final production version might still be a tad different. Well, that’s not the case with what the leaked images of the 2022 Honda Civic suggest.

The leaked images of the 11th-gen Honda Civic came from China, and it basically confirmed that the final production version looks similar to the prototype model. There are subtle design changes integrated into the production version of the 2022 Honda Civic but the overall appearance of the car remains the same.

The subtle design changes that you can spot include a non-mesh lower grille design, the addition of fog lamps, and a different set of wheels. There are also some design changes seen on the taillights. The rest of the 2022 Honda Civic production version mirrors what we saw in the prototype model. However, the interior of the car remains to be a mystery as cabin shots were not included in the leaked photos. Of note, the leaked production version of the 11th-gen Honda Civic is for the Chinese market.

You might be wondering how did the images leak ahead of the car’s official debut, right? As reported by Motor1, every new car launched in China needs to get approval from the Chinese government’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The MIIT takes pictures of the car that are occasionally published on its official website.

What about the engines? Based on the report of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the 2022 Honda Civic will come with either a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline or a 2.0-liter gasoline engine in the U.S. market. Both engines are said to be connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). CARB is the “clean air agency” in the state of California, and is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution.

Could this be the top-spec trim of the 2022 Honda Civic in China?

Honda’s official debut for the 2022 Honda Civic is scheduled to be in the second quarter of 2021. Depending on the market, Honda will launch the Civic Sedan followed by the Civic Hatchback, the Civic Si, and the Civic Type R.
