Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) launched the 11th generation Civic last November 2021 offering three variants that are all powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine.
The integration of a turbocharged power unit across all variants is much appreciated, considering that all 2022 Honda Civic trims can deliver 176 hp and 240 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and power is sent to the front wheels.
In Europe, the 11th gen Civic comes in the form of a five-door hatchback. The Japanese car brand has also announced that it will be offered exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, and it is expected to go on sale sometime in September 2022.
Now, it seems that Honda has plans to introduce the Civic Hybrid in the ASEAN region. Thai automotive publication Headlight Magazine reports that Honda Thailand is preparing to launch the hybrid version of the 2022 Civic. It will reportedly come with the same 2.0-liter engine found on the Honda Accord Hybrid.
That said, the Civic Hybrid is seen to put out more power if the report is accurate. The Accord Hybrid’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors generate a combined power output of 212 hp and 315 Nm of torque. Further details about the Civic Hybrid’s Thailand launch are still limited as of this writing. So, if it’s coming to Thailand, can the Philippine market expect to have the same option too?
We reached out to HCPI in regards to the matter but the company has yet to reply to our inquiry. Previously, HCPI said that it plans to launch new models this year, which could include the all-new BR-V and HR-V.
While it’s still quite a long shot to expect for the Civic Hybrid, we think that it makes sense if HCPI brings the said model here in the Philippines. The reason for this is that Toyota as well as other car brands in the country are making strides in adding hybrid vehicles into its model lineup. The Civic Hybrid could also attract individuals who are looking for more power under the hood while relatively having a more fuel-efficient car.
