We are hoping to get new features such as Honda Sensing and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Earlier this year, Honda unveiled the facelifted version of the fifth-generation City. Not only did the subcompact get sportier-looking but also more advanced with the addition of the brand’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) called Honda Sensing.

Now, it seems like we don’t have to wait long before we can get our hands on the new iteration. In a report by Autoindustriya, an insider revealed the City facelift could arrive on our shores next month. The report also states that the current stocks are being cleared to make room for the refreshed model.

The specs of the presumed PH-spec 2024 City are still to be determined as Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) hasn’t addressed the matter yet. But we can check out the new features of the Honda City in India where the facelift debuted so we know what to expect.

Exterior-wise, the Indian-spec Honda City comes with a new grille with a diamond chequered flag pattern, a new front bumper, and a newly-designed 16-inch two-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. All of these add sportiness to the design, which can be finished in a new color called Obsidian Blue Pearl.

It is available in a two-tone flavor

Perhaps the most noteworthy addition to the interior is the wireless Apple CarPlay, providing a seamless connection to the infotainment system. It is complemented by new tech features such as a wireless charger and a sunroof.

In addition to new tech, the Honda Sensing makes the sedan safer with functions including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), among others. Currently, only the Nissan Almera offers an ADAS in the Philippine subcompact sedan market.

The refreshed Honda City still uses a 1.5-liter i-VTEC DOHC engine with 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. But over in the Indian market, the said engine is available with a hybrid setup consisting of a self-charging and highly-efficient two-motor e-CVT hybrid system. The propulsion electric motor produces 108 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque. When combined, the hybrid system makes 124 horsepower.

We could see the sportier-looking and smarter City next month

Locally, Honda currently doesn’t offer any of the brand’s e:HEV models. But HCPI President Rie Miyake promised to bring in hybrid models when she took the role last March 2023. That said, one can only hope the Honda City e:HEV will be offered to Filipino car buyers soon.
