Honda has launched a smartphone app that might help produce better drivers. It’s called the Honda Driver Coaching app, and it seeks to improve rookie drivers' skills and promote safe driving practices.
The said app from the Japanese car brand is now available for download from the Apple App Store. Honda then added that the app is compatible with specific vehicles equipped with Apple CarPlay.
This is a proactive way of learning how to improve one's driving.
Apple CarPlay is crucial for the app because it uses the said connectivity option to link up with a car’s onboard computer. It does this to provide real-time driving analysis by keeping track of how steering inputs, braking, and acceleration.
When needed, the app can then provide feedback to the driver. After a session, the program can then provide a score to evaluate how one performed behind the wheel. It likewise gives a summary of the drive and tips on how to improve. Apart from the active driving analysis feature, the new Honda app can also instructional videos which can be viewed via a car’s central touchscreen headunit.

As mentioned above, the new Honda app can work on specific Honda cars only. This includes 2018 to 2023 models of the Honda Insight and Accord, 2020 or newer models of the CR-V, 2019 to 2020 models of the Civic, and 2023 or newer models of the HR-V, Pilot, and Acura Integra. Be aware that some of these cars are not available locally. There’s also the fact that the brand didn’t say if this can work on global versions of the said models.
Upon checking the Philippine version of the Apple App Store, it also looks like the said app is yet to become locally available. There’s also no word from the brand if it’s going to be available on the Google PlayStore as well. So for now, let’s hope that Honda Cars Philippines and Apple’s local branch can get this to work in the Philippines.
