Since last year, the Geely Coolray has been seen with a promising future in the local market, besting its segment in terms of sales amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is offering Filipino car buyers ample interior space, sporty styling, and lots of features at a relatively affordable price.

Now, it seems like Geely Coolray has no plans in stepping off at the top of the competition as it is once again hailed as the best-selling subcompact crossover in May 2021, as per the reports from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID).

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the country, managed to sell 186 units of the Coolray in May 2021. CAMPI and AVID reported that the subcompact crossover records a 33 percent market share in the subcompact crossover segment, month-to-date (MTD).

Moreover, Geely Philippines has maintained its number nine ranking in the total industry sales with year-to-date sales of 1,987 units (8th in the passenger vehicle segment). Also contributing to the car brand’s satisfactory sales performance is the Geely Okavango which ranked third in the midsize SUV segment with 151 units sold in May.

“We are pleased to see the good reception of the Coolray and Okavango have been receiving in the market. This proves that we are offering our customers what they really need at this time,” said SGAP President and CEO Yosuke Nishi.

Another strong entry from the Geely, the 7-seater Okavango

The Geely Coolray is a subcompact crossover that was the first entry of the Chinese car brand since its reintroduction in the country in 2019. It uses a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque. A 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is coupled to the engine as standard.

Pricing starts at Php 978,000 for the base Comfort variant and goes up to Php 1,198,000 for the top-spec Sport variant. The flagship Geely Coolray gets variant-exclusive features including sport leather seats, full LED headlamps, and a fully automatic parking feature.
