Maxus Philippines isn’t bringing the Maxus D60 to the Philippine market until next year, but a recent development might make it an even more interesting proposition for potential customers.
The Maxus D60 aced C-NCAP crash tests with flying colors
See, the Chinese compact SUV managed to pass stringent crash safety standards imposed by the China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP), garnering a cumulative score of 88.9 percent. That’s equivalent to a perfect five-star safety rating.
Breaking down the D60’s assessment, occupant protection was its strongest suit at 91.61 percent. Head and chest protection for front occupants were the highest in front and side-impact tests, while rear occupants can also expect significant protection in these scenarios. Whiplash protection is an impressive 4.3 out of a maximum of 5 points.

Occupants are adequately protected on front and side impacts
The D60 also delivers on pedestrian safety, gaining 10.9 out of a total of 15 points. For active safety which requires driver-assist features, the D60 achieved 13.9 out of a total of 15 points, the test unit being equipped with autonomous emergency braking (AEB).
Bonus points were awarded to the vehicle for being equipped with seatbelt reminders for the front passenger and rear occupants, as well as having side and curtain airbags. The Maxus D60 achieved a perfect score on all items.
The D60 also takes pedestrian safety into account
The D60’s C-NCAP achievement bodes well for its positioning as a family vehicle, especially with the seven-seater variant making its way here. Despite the passenger capacity, the D60’s cabin will be far from cramped. A little surprise since it boasts dimensions that surpass even the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

The top marks should make the Maxus D60 crossover a very interesting option
Expected under the engine bay is a 1.5L turbo gasoline engine, the same one powering the G50 MPV with 166 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and six airbags, although driver-assist systems will be necessary if we hope to have the same five-star-rated D60 in our market.
