The Hyundai Kona subcompact crossover enters its second generation. After providing scant information on the model following its launch in late 2022, the automaker has revealed more of the new Kona’s appearance along with technical details.

Hyundai has released more details about its upcoming 2024 Kona subcompact crossover

Physical dimensions of the 2024 Kona stand at 4,350mm long, 1,825mm wide, and 1,580mm high (when sporting 17-inch wheels) on a 2,660mm wheelbase, effectively making it larger than the previous iteration. Take note that the measurements apply for the standard combustion and hybrid trims, so those on the electric version are expected to be similar.

Overt sporty elements by way of contrast-color body cladding is present on both combustion and hybrid Kona units, while these are rendered in a more subtly body color for the fully electric and N Line releases. Further setting the EV variant apart is its Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp across the hood, the first Hyundai model to use the design.

Aero bits include an upper active air flap on the combustion variant, accompanied by a lower air flap on the hybrid Kona. For the N Line trim, the wing-shaped bumper is accompanied by more aggressive front and rear designs along with twin exhaust tips and silver side skirts. More options include a contrast black roof and 19-inch alloy wheels.

For the interior, Hyundai claims the all-new Kona features best-in-class space, with the shoulder room of 1,402mm being the largest in its segment helped by slim and rigid seats that are only 85mm thick. With the rear seats folded down, maximum cargo capacity is at 723 liters, accessible via a customizable smart power tailgate that allows users to select the opening height and speed.

Hyundai offers over-the-air (OTA) updates for the Kona's systems

The 12.3-inch dual screen display is where users can receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates for the new Kona’s various systems, and the vehicle access can be controlled through the Digital Key 2 Touch feature that uses near-field communication (NFC) on the user’s smartphone or compatible smartwatch.

Safety features include driver-assist systems such as Forward Collision-avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, and Highway Driving Assist.

The all-new Kona offers four powertrain options spanning gasoline, hybrid, and full electric

The all-new Kona runs on a 2.0-liter Atkinson engine as its base offering, bringing 147 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque, working with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). A smaller 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection yields 195 horsepower and 265 Nm of pull.

For the hybrid powertrain, a 1.6-liter direct injection power unit works with an electric motor for a combined output of 139 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque. Details for the fully electric version are expected to be disclosed by March 2023.
