World Car Awards announced the Top 10 finalists for this year’s World Car of the Year (WCOTY).
The finalists at the 2023 World Car Awards
From an initial list of 30 contenders, here are the 10 finalists selected by a jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 32 countries:
- Alfa Romeo Tonale
- BMW 2 Series Coupe
- BMW X1/iX1
- Honda HR-V/ZR-V
- Hyundai Ioniq 6
- Kia Niro
- Mazda CX-60
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class
- Nissan Ariya
- Nissan Z
Like the 2022 WCOTY Top 10 list, this year’s finalists are completed by three electric vehicles (EVs), namely the BMW iX1, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Nissan Ariya. This feat reflects the automakers’ initiative to improve their EV models, which is crucial for the upcoming EV-only era.
Hyundai Ioniq 6
Hyundai is making a return to the list with the Ioniq 6 following the Ioniq 5’s victory at last year’s WCOTY. One of the most noteworthy features of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is its range claimed to reach up to 614 km on a single charge. The Hyundai EV also boasts a drag coefficient of 0.21, which is the lowest in the Korean automaker’s lineup.
All the said vehicles are also eligible for the 2023 World Car Design of the Year award.
Alfa Romeo Tonale
The countdown ends in April when the winners will be announced live at the 2023 New York International Auto Show during an awards ceremony.
“We salute this year’s finalists and are pleased to be part of the most important automotive awards program on the planet,” said New York Auto Show President Mark Schienberg.
“For nearly two decades, the partnership between World Car and the New York Auto Show has recognized the very best the auto industry has to offer. We’re looking forward to once again co-hosting the awards ceremony during the opening of the 2023 Show in April. Congratulations and best of luck to all the finalists,” added Schienberg.
