It’s a grander stage to feature EVs in the limelight.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are the up-and-coming big new thing in the automotive industry. But guess what, they still aren't shining in the limelight as some would want them to be. So in order to further provide more exposure to its own EV models, General Motors has recently established a partnership with video streaming giant Netflix.

This initiative between the two entities is dubbed “EVs on Screen,” As the name suggests, Netflix-produced shows and films will feature EVs made and developed by General Motors.

Specifically, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, the GMC Hummer EV, and the Cadillac Lyriq will be featured on Netflix series such as Love is Blind, Queer Eye, and Unstable, respectively. The partnership will also help creators to better understand EVs. This exchange of knowledge, in turn, can be used to enhance the stories they are trying to tell via their movies and shows.

Netflix likewise has pledged to assume a more sustainable stance, especially during the production of its shows and movies. This will involve optimizing energy usage, shifting to electric power when necessary, and decarbonizing in general.

According to Netflix Chief Marketing Officer Marian Lee, their in-house produced shows and films can somewhat influence culture. This is proven by the recent TikTok dance trend taken from the Netflix series Wednesday, for example.

Suppose this level of sway over culture can be harnessed to educate and promote to people the advantages of EVs. Then the partnership with GM, who is also a cultural leader in the automotive industry, just makes perfect sense.

Note also that GM has a number of joint ventures and sub-companies that are now working to develop and sell EVs. These include Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Baojun, and Wuling. One of the most talked about EVs in the automotive scene right now is of course the GMC Hummer EV mentioned earlier. And of course, the Cadillac Lyriq has also caught plenty of attention for its incorporation of luxury and cutting-edge electric propulsion technology.

But what about you? What do you think of this partnership between Netflix and GM? For more car news and automotive industry updates, keep it here on Philkotse.
