After its resurrection of the GranTurismo nameplate in September this year, Maserati is following it up with its first sanctioned images of the GranCabrio drop-top version.
Maserati releases the first official images of the 2023 GranCabrio prototype
Despite the camouflage surrounding the prototypes of the convertible, the flowing silhouette it gets from the GranTurismo is still evident in the design. From the trademark Maserati trident in front surrounded by LED headlamps and massive air vents to the streamlined tail lamps at the rear, the GranCabrio mostly resembles its hard-top counterpart with the added promise of open-air driving.
Both the GranTurismo and GranCabrio represent Maserati’s first efforts at offering a pure electric option when it comes to propulsion. As such, the latter is available with the flagship Folgore trim level that employs three electric motors, spinning all four wheels with a combined 751 horsepower and 1,350 Nm of torque. This is built around an 800-volt electrical system with power supplied by a 92.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.

There are combustion options as well, represented by a 3.0-liter gasoline twin-turbo V6 used by the MC20 and the Grecale, in two states of tune. For the Modena trim, it whips out 490 horsepower and 600 Nm of twist, while the Trofeo sports an uprated version that produces 550 horsepower and 649 Nm of torque.
No official images of the cabin were shown, but it stands to reason that the GranCabrio’s interior will be identical to the GranTurismo.
The GranTurismo and GranCabrio grand tourers were manufactured by Maserati from 2007 to 2019, with the former setting a record for the most quickly developed car in the industry, going from design to production in just nine months. Before they bowed out in 2019, a total of 28,805 GranTurismo units rolled off the factory floor, alongside 11,715 GranCabrio versions.

According to Maserati, the new GranCabrio prototypes are undergoing intensive testing in various usage conditions to gather essential data that will allow final adjustments ahead of the model’s expected launch in 2023.
