Images of the 2022 Ford Ranger undergoing testing in the field have been making the rounds online for months now. Even Ford Philippines has joined the party, releasing an official teaser video of the upcoming midsize truck testing its mettle in local off-road conditions.

For the most part, the Ranger has only ever been seen in camouflage, with most of its exterior details deliberately obscured from the casual observer. However, new photo leaks from the Ranger6G.com forums show some of that camo wrap peeled away from the truck’s fascia, revealing what the new iteration of the model looks like.

Dominating the design details are the twin horizontal bars bearing the Ford logo superimposed on a large grille. Those bars bridge the two C-shaped headlamps at the corners, forming a dog-bone motif similarly sported by the U.S.-market Ford Maverick compact pickup.

The design was previously adapted from the 13th generation F-Series full-size truck series, and is a subtle yet familiar throwback for those old enough to have lived through the heydays of the Ford Escort Mark I.

Earlier spy shots of the new Ranger undergoing testing in Australia showed the same tubular sports bar on the cargo bed as the updated photos, which currently exist on the PH-spec Ranger FX4 Max. Curiously, the latest images seem to omit the side mirror-mounted 360-degree camera that the truck is rumored to be offering. The test mule is also wearing a new Bronco R-inspired pattern accompanied by a QR code, seen on another teaser video released by Ford Philippines.

While details are still scarce as far as the interior and onboard tech are concerned, a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen is expected to make an appearance, integrating multimedia and climate controls on top of Ford’s SYNC4 operating system. Potential engine options will likely include the current 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel rated at 210 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.
