A couple of months ago, the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has extended the adult occupant protection (AOP) test results of the 2021 Isuzu D-Max to the 2021 Isuzu mu-X.
This is because the said midsize SUV shares the same frame and the same restraint system as the Isuzu-made pickup truck, though with some slight differences. Also note that Mu-X that was tested was from Thailand.

That said, the new mu-X has shown to have a stable vehicle compartment during the frontal offset crash test. The dummies used in the test had good to adequate protection to their heads, chests, and legs, and the only spot where marginal protection was provided was to the driver’s right knee. In the adult occupant test, the Isuzu mu-X managed to get a total unweighted score of 30.36 out of a maximum score of 36.00, which is equivalent to a five-star rating for AOP.
Regarding child occupant protection, the Isuzu-made SUV also did well. In fact, it managed to get a perfect score for the front impact test at 16.00, and side-impact test at 8.00. In total for COP, the mu-X got a total unweighted score of 44.37 out of 49.00. It did not get a perfect score due to several critical problems with certain brands of child seats in specific orientations and positions within the car. Regardless, the score also makes it qualify for a five-star rating for COP.

These results means that the 2021 mu-X is an ideal family ride
For safety assist features, the 2021 Isuzu mu-X garnered a total overall score of 15.85 out of a maximum of 18.00. This is also equivalent to a five-star rating in this category of safety test. The ASEAN NCAP also tested the mu-X's blind spot technology (BST), which is optional in the current markets where the mu-X is sold. The said technology aboard the mu-X has been confirmed to function according to the said organization’s requirements for both the right- and left-side of the SUV.
In summary, the new 2021 Isuzu mu-X has been given an overall score of 86.81 out of a maximum of 100. That’s equivalent to a five-star overall safety rating based on the latest ASEAN NCAP testing protocols. This means that this new SUV is one of the safest in its vehicle class right now.
