The coronavirus pandemic forced our country into extensive lockdowns that caused limited economic activity. This resulted in a domino effect that brought some of the established companies to lay off their workforce or even shut down their operations.
The Philippine automotive industry is one of the industries that suffered a huge blow last year. In a report by Visor, the local car sales in 2020 went down by 40.4 percent with a total of 244,617 units sold. In comparison, car sales in the Philippines last 2019 yielded 410,187 units sold.

Despite the decrease in sales, the Philippine automotive industry was determined to weather the storm caused by the pandemic. One of the things that local car brands did was to shift their strategy in reaching potential clients by investing in the digital platform.
Car brands in the Philippines revamped their respective websites and transformed it into virtual showrooms. Aside from virtual showrooms, car brands made use of the digital platform by hosting virtual vehicle launches throughout 2020. Despite that, car sales in the Philippines still went down, which is expected due to the economic effect of the pandemic.
