2. About Jeep Philippines
History
The American car brand Jeep has come a long way from releasing vehicles to assist battles in World War 2 to be one of the most recognizable automobile companies today. Its rich history started in 1941 when Willy-Overland released the Willys MB Jeep. A model specifically designed and built for military use.
When the war ended in 1945, Willy-Overland introduced the Willys CJ Models also known as the “Civilian Jeep”. It was designed with the infamous grille with seven slots. Five years after its release, the company trademarked the name “Jeep”.
In 1953 Kaiser Motors bought Willys-Overland. The Jeep brand was handled by different companies and different variations of the CJ models were released to supply the huge demand.
In 1987, Chrysler Corporation acquired the automobile line as consumers started to shift their interest to Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV). In 1998 it merged with Daimler-Benz. After 16 years, Chrysler Corporation joined forces with FIAT to form FCA US LLC, which presently handles and manufactures Jeep vehicles.
