Make your Wigo stand out on the road.

The Toyota Wigo is currently the marque’s smallest, and most affordable car in the Philippines. To this end, it is quite popular. And despite its relatively tiny size, it provides decent space for up to five passengers, plus some cargo at the back. Moreover, its 1.0-liter three-banger is known to be frugal on gas.

To this end, the Wigo is a common sight on local roads. So how does one make a Wigo stand out more? Well, here are some Wigo modified tips & advice to spice up your Toyota-made city car.

Toyota Wigo Modified Philippines: Lowered but not slammed

As mentioned in our guide on coilovers and springs, the easiest way to improve your car’s looks and handling is to lower your car. For this, you have two options: coilovers and lowering springs.

Now lowering springs are less expensive than coilovers. They cannot be adjusted like coilovers, but they can also be quicker to install since you’re just replacing your stock springs. Do note however that if what you’re after is a lowered ride height while keeping some measure of ride comfort, coilovers would be a better choice.

Moreover, you’d be better off with coilovers if you’re looking into going to the race track. Then again, this is a Wigo we’re talking about, so track racing might be off the board. As such, a set of lowering springs might provide you with better value.

Do remember though that a Toyota Wigo modified with a lower ride height will also have disadvantages. Lowering after all essentially means robbing your car of ground clearance, so you need to drive more carefully when taking on rough roads or roads with speed bumps.

On that note, we do not encourage “slamming” your Wigo. Sure, it would look “dope” as the kids would say. But judging by the road conditions here in the Philippines, lowering it to the extreme would render the car useless. As such, we recommend around a maximum lowering of 1 to 1.5-inches.

Toyota Wigo Modified: Wheels

As a low-cost city car model, the Wigo’s wheels don’t have much in the way of looks. They suit the car, but there are a lot more aftermarket choices out there that can make it stand apart from the sea of other Wigos on the road.

For this, there’s Rota with the Circuit series wheels, as well as the Grid 3. There’s also the Contour series from RTX, many models from American Racing, Konig, and many others that come in a 15-inch size.

Sure, you can go cram in a 16- or even 17-inch wheelset on a Toyota Wigo, but you might have to make sure that it doesn’t result in tire rubbing. Also, please avoid “fake” wheels as these aren’t as strong as the real ones.

As a side note, there are different kinds of wheel fitments that are popular nowadays. There’s “poke” where the wheels slightly jut out of the car, there’s “flush” where the wheel perfectly aligns with the fender, etc. Look these up, and pick the one that you think fits your Wigo and your tastes.

Toyota Wigo Modified: The TRD S

As many of you might already know, Toyota Philippines offers the Wigo TRD S trim. Essentially, it’s a Wigo that already comes with a body kit and TRD badges from the factory.

Besides being sold as a trim level, Toyota Philippines also sells TRD accessories for the Wigo. Available TRD accessories for the Wigo include a front spoiler, a rear roof spoiler, side skirts, a roof-mounted spoiler, a set of TRD wheels, among others.

Do note though that in buying a Wigo TRD S (or the accessories), your Wigo will look like the other Wigo TRD Ses running around the Philippines. So for a Toyota Wigo customized design, you might want to accrue the services of a local body kit company or seller.
