The BMW X2 2023 is the brand’s entry into the premium subcompact crossover segment. Its dynamic styling has a coupé-like character, with a bolder and more athletic stance. This sporty yet elegant exterior aesthetic consistently continues to the cabin’s styling that is likewise equipped with driver-oriented technologies, making each ride exceptionally comfortable. These premium finishes are coupled with practical storage options that makes the X2 full of style and functionality. The BMW X2 xDrive20d M Sport X is the lone variant available in the Philippines. It is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that is also equipped with BMW’s signature xDrive all-wheel drive system.
Launch
The BMW X2 was first introduced at the 2016 Paris Motor Show which was soon followed by an online release of final model for global distribution in October 2017. It arrived in Philippine shores on April 2018.
Exterior
The X2 boasts of a unique design language that differentiates it among BMW’s lineup. Its sporty aesthetic is further emphasized by its dominant bumper, the three huge air intakes, muscular shoulder line, the smoothly sloping roof line, and the rear exhaust pipes. Supplementing the crossover’s modern exterior are full LED lighting system on the headlamps, fog lamps, and tail lights.
Although designed distinctively, it still carries the German brand’s signature kidney grille only with a wider base that gives the vehicle a broader stance. The front fascia is complemented by a full-mesh lower grille outlined in frozen gray trims. It rides on 19-inch M light alloy wheels as standard.
Interior
The BMW X2’s elegant-slash-athletic exterior extends to the generously spaced cabin. In true BMW fashion, the interior comes in an ergonomic layout with a driver-oriented cockpit. Aluminum Hexagon Anthracite trims are spread around the dashboard and center console, elevating the cabin’s neutral-colored palette.
The crossover is furnished with sports seats wrapped in Micro Hexagon/Alcantara Anthracite upholstery that is commonly used in sports vehicles. All seats are equipped with electric adjustability for added convenience.
On the rear, the X2 boasts of an expansive trunk space that can carry 470 liters of cargo with the seats up. It can further extend to 1,355 liters with the rear seats folded.
Technology & Safety Features
In terms of entertainment, the BMW X2 is decked with a 6.5-inch LCD infotainment system that operates with the BMW iDrive system. It covers all areas from entertainment, navigation, and connectivity through Bluetooth, AUX-in, and USB. Audio comes out of a HiFi loudspeaker system.
The premium crossover is equipped with a slew of safety features that include an anti-lock braking system, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, multi-collision brake, run-flat tires, tire pressure monitoring, driving experience control with ECO PRO, and an automatic start and stop function. It also comes with the BMW Parking Assistant which provides the vehicle with a rear-view camera and front and rear park distance control. For added safety and convenience, the X2 comes with keyless entry complemented by a keyless engine start system.
Platform & Chassis
The 4-door 5-seater compact crossover is equipped with an independent McPherson Strut, lowered M Sport suspension in front and independent multi-link, M Sport suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from vented discs all around.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood of the BMW X2 xDrive20d M Sport X is a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo, in-line 4-cylinder Diesel engine that can produce a powerful 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-Speed Automatic Transmission with Steptronic Sport that sends power to all wheels through the innovative BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system.
