The same off-road goodness, but with better rear cabin accessibility.

Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH) has officially rolled out the all-new Jimny 5-Door model for the local market with three variants - the entry-level GL, GLX, and the GLX Two-tone. The new version is still built on the same sturdy off-road capable platform, but it uses a slightly extended body in order to accommodate dedicated doors for its rear cabin.

So what can prospective buyers expect from this new version of the Jimny? Let’s talk about its specs and features to find out.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door retains the boxy look of the original version. From the front, it features a beefy-looking bumper that houses a pair of fog lamps, and a rectangular grille with five vertical slats that are flanked by a pair of circular LED headlamps (GLX).

Over to the side, it gets beefy fender flares and a black plastic side skirt just like before. The key feature of this new compact SUV though, is the new doors dedicated to the rear passenger cabin. This adds better ingress and egress for the vehicle’s rear occupants.

The 5-Door is slightly longer than the 3-Door version.

The model’s squared-off rear end meanwhile, gets a pair of bumper-mounted LED taillights, a tailgate-mounted full-size spare tire, a rear window de-mister, and a rear wiper.

As mentioned above, the Jimny 5-Door was elongated a bit and its overall length now spans 3,820mm, which is 170mm more compared to its three-door sibling. Its width and height, however, remain the same at 1,645mm and 1,720mm, respectively. Its wheelbase, on the other hand, was stretched up to 2,590mm.

Just like the older 3-door Jimny, the Jimny 5-Door gets a generous ground clearance of 210mm. Its climbing and descending ability is also ensured by short overhangs that provide an approach angle of 36 degrees, a ramp breakover angle of 24 degrees, and a departure angle of 47 degrees.

Due to its slightly larger frame, the Jimny 5-Door’s top-spec version has a curb weight of 1,205 kg. That’s 95 kg more compared to the top-spec 3-door model.

Interior

Step inside the Jimny 5-Door and you’ll be greeted by a predominantly black cabin that carries over the 3-door version’s design. Its dashboard remains dominated by a large touchscreen display, while most of its sections including the interior door cards are made out of sturdy plastics.

For the model’s higher-spec GLX trim, interior comfort is ensured by an automatic air-conditioning system with physical buttons and knob controls. It also gets physical controls for the vehicle’s mechanical functions.

Over to the driver-side of the Jimny 5-Door is a modern-looking three-spoke steering wheel equipped with buttons for the cruise control (GLX) and audio control switches. This wheel is similar in design to the one on the Jimny 3-door, the Ertiga Hybrid, XL7, and the Swift. Behind the steering wheel are sturdy-looking analog gauges that flank a small digital display.

The seats of the Jimny 5-Door meanwhile, are clad in fabric. All get a manual adjustment, and the ones for the rear feature a 50:50 split-folding function. At maximum, the 5-Door model can still fit four adults, and the Japanese brand says it has improved its rear seats with thicker cushions. Both the front and rear cabin occupants share two cup holders mounted on the center console.

With the rear seats folded down, it can carry up to 332 liters of cargo.

With the rear seats folded, the Jimny 5-Door can carry a total of 332 liters of cargo. With the rear seats in use, the vehicle has a default cargo space of 211 liters. According to Suzuki, more luggage space was freed up thanks to the removal of the luggage box that’s currently on the 3-door. The company likewise lowered this section’s floor height.

Tech & Safety

Handling onboard entertainment needs for the Jimny 5-Door GLX is a nine-inch touchscreen display paired with a four-piece speaker system. For smartphone connectivity, this screen is kitted out with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In-vehicle charging is done through 12-volt accessory sockets on the vehicle’s center console and luggage compartment, as well as a center console USB port.

The Jimny 5-Door GLX is equipped with a nine-inch toucshcreen display.

For safety, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door features dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, anti-lock braking, hill-hold control, hill-descent control, a reverse parking camera, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control, among others.

Engine & Performance

As mentioned, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door gets three variants for the local market. The entry-level GL gets a five-speed manual transmission, while the GLX and GLX Two-Tone trims are fitted with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

For all variants, they use a 1.5-liter K15B inline-4 gasoline that’s also on the Jimny 3-door. At the most, this four-banger can make up to 101 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque.

Just like its slightly smaller 3-door sibling, the all-new Jimny 5-Door gets a part-time 4x4 system with a two-wheel-drive mode, 4x4-high mode, and a 4x4-low range mode. The control scheme for this 4x4 system is a lever positioned slightly below the gear shifter.

Stopping power is supplied by a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. Off-road stability and ride comfort are delivered by a 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs for both the front and rear. Those aforementioned bits are combined with a rigid and durable full ladder frame chassis.

Price

When it comes to price, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door starts at Php 1,558,000 for the entry-level GL. The GLX meanwhile, retails for Php 1,698,000 for the mono-color versions. The GLX Two-Tone then retails at Php 1,708,000.
