It ditched the V6 in favor of a 2.5-liter hybrid engine.

The all-new 2024 Toyota Alphard has quietly launched for the Philippine market. Its sole available variant is the HEV 2.5 CVT, a hybrid, and it starts at a price of Php 4,980,000.

The 2024 Toyota Alphard

Of note, this is the fourth-generation AH40 model which was initially rolled out in Toyota’s home country of Japan back in June 2023. It comes eight years after the previous third-gen AH30 model which was launched in 2015, and five years after the facelift model was introduced in 2018.

So what does the all-new Alphard offer to prospective buyers?

Exterior

Appearance-wise, the all-new Toyota luxury minivan gets a redesigned face with a flatter nose, a slightly longer hood, as well as a new pattern. On the outside, it features LED headlamps with automatic leveling, LED daytime running lamps, and power-folding side mirrors.

Its sides then get a power sliding door and the same fin-like protrusion on its window line just like the outgoing model. From this angle, one can also see that it rides on a new set of 19-inch wheels.

Its rear end, in turn, gets a pair of LED taillights with a sharper-looking new design. These are integrated into a black-colored decorative piece that straddles the entire width of the van’s rear. Other exterior features of the 2024 Alphard include a power tailgate, front/rear rain-sensing wipers, and a moon roof.

Tech & Safety

Handling the entertainment needs of the Alphard’s occupants is a 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is then paired with a 15-piece JBL sound system. Charging is then provided by a 12-volt socket, Type C USB ports, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Standard on the 2024 Alphard is the Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistive suite. This includes active safety bits like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, pre-collision warning, etc. Parking is then made easy thanks to a 360-degree view camera.

Likewise available on this luxury model is anti-lock braking, ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill-start assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear clearance sonars, stability control, a car alarm, and an engine immobilizer.

Engine

For 2024, the Alphard gets a 2.5-liter hybrid inline-4 gasoline engine. The combustion component alone can make up to 185 horsepower and 233 Nm of torque. Its electric motors, in turn, can churn out 179 horsepower, upping the Alphard’s total output to 246 horsepower.

The Alphard's gear shift lever

Sending power to its front wheels is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a shift-by-wire shift lever. Ride quality is then ensured by a MacPherson strut for the front and a double wishbone rear suspension. Braking is provided by disc brakes for all four wheels and an electronic parking brake with an auto-brake hold feature.
