As we’ve reported before, 2022 is going to be a busy year for Toyota Motor Philippines. Next year, the Japanese marque is set on bringing in several new products. Included in this list is the all-new Toyota Raize subcompact crossover, as well as the all-new 2022 Avanza.
The hybrid version of the Alphard gets a blue-tinged logo
Of note, the two aforementioned models belong to hotly contested segments in the Philippine automotive scene, especially with the seven-seater Avanza MPV. As such, there is no doubt that the car brand is well on its way to punching out of the state of doldrums caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report by Autoindustriya, another Toyota vehicle is scheduled to debut next year. As said in the report, this is going to be the Toyota Alphard minivan, another market mover for the Japanese brand in the local market in March 2022.
As to whether this Alphard is a next-generation model or not, the report also revealed that it was labeled as “IMP”, which in the context of Toyota corporate lingo stands for “improved or new features/new variants”.
While that is still murky, we can posit several possibilities for the upcoming Alphard. One is that it will be getting a hybrid variant, which is currently available in other markets. Of note, this particular version of the said model is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine combined with a 650-Volt Synchronous motor.
The Japanese-spec Alphard S Type Gold
At maximum, it can make up to 201 horsepower. It’s not as powerful as the current V6 for the said model, but we can assume that it offers more in the way of fuel economy.
Another possibility, as the report in question mentions, is the introduction of a more “dressed up” variant of the Toyota Alphard. We can’t be sure for now, but it is highly possible that it is the Alphard S Type Gold introduced back in 2020, and currently sold in Japan.
Like most speculative articles like this, take these reports regarding the 2022 Toyota Alphard with a grain of salt. But if you are particularly excited about this bit of news, keep reading here on Philkotse.
