2024 McLaren 750S debuts with 740-hp V8 engine

Let’s just say it leaves its predecessor in the dust. 

The all-new McLaren 750S has just debuted, serving as the evolved and more powerful successor to the McLaren 720S.

According to the American supercar maker, the new 750S has several qualities that will make for an exhilarating driving experience thanks to its beefy twin-turbo V8 engine paired with one of the lightest vehicle bodies the brand has ever produced. 

If those have tickled your thirst for performance, then read on to get to know the all-new 2024 McLaren 750S a little bit better.

Exterior

From the front of the 750S coupe and convertible versions, one will see new designs that evolved from the older 720S. Present on the new model is a longer front splitter, a new mesh-type grille, and a pair of slimmer “eye sockets” surrounding its LED headlamps.

Likewise refined further is the 750S’ side profile which now features several new air intakes. Its rear section meanwhile, was lengthened for better aerodynamics. The latter part of the vehicle is then host to a raised carbon fiber active wing which sits just above a McLaren P1-inspired central exhaust. 

Of note, the said active wing is 20 percent larger compared to the one on the 720S. This exterior piece is also capable of deploying in half a second and is capable of providing increased downforce and high-speed stability when braking. On the flip side, it also gets an automatic drag reduction system (DRS) for optimum acceleration and straight-line speed.

Completing the look of the 750S are 19-inch wheels for the front and 20-inch wheels for the rear. Several design options for the said wheels are available. This includes the 10-spoke “Strike” and the 5-spoke “Vortex”. Both are lightweight forged alloy wheels, and they can come in a variety of colors.

As mentioned above, the McLaren 750S is one of the brand’s lightest production models. This is thanks to a carbon fiber monocoque construction that employs ultra-slim A-pillars. Its front and rear bumpers meanwhile, are made using a proprietary lightweight material.

To further save on weight, the 750S’ convertible variant uses a retractable hard-top whose rollover protection system and rear upper structure are also made from carbon fiber.

Thanks to all the weight-saving measures, the 750S’ curb weight clocks in at a mere 1,389kg (coupe) which is 30kg lighter than the 720S. This also means that the new McLaren supercar is lighter than the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 (1,553kg) and Ferrari F8 Tributo (1,435kg). 

Interior

Step inside the McLaren 750S and one will find a driver-centric cabin that’s mostly wrapped in Alcantara. Most notably, soft-touch surfaces are abundant on the car’s interior door cards and dashboard, while its center console is tilted towards the driver.

Even the digital gauge cluster is mounted on the car’s steering column along with the car’s drive mode selector. This ensures driver focus, and negates the need to take one’s attention off the road.

To further improve the feel of the 750S’ interior, the brand also added customizable ambient lighting that’s hidden in strategic areas of the car.

On the coupe version, drivers can also see the 750S’ rear-mounted engine via the double-glazed panel in the cabin’s rear luggage shelf. This then pairs with the glazed C-pillars which serve to allow natural light to enter the cabin. 

Tech & Safety

Introduced to the 2024 McLaren 750S is the brand’s new car dynamics setup software. Dubbed the McLaren Control Launcher, it allows the driver to customize the settings of the vehicle’s powertrain, transmission, aerodynamics, etc. According to McLaren, this allows for a truly bespoke driving experience.

Providing on-board entertainment meanwhile, is an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. For some reason, Android Auto is not available, but it does get a Bower & Wilkins premium sound system. 

For easy parking, the 750S is also kitted out with a rear view and a 360-degree view camera system. Not many details were provided regarding its safety kit, but we can expect that it might get an improved version of the driver-assistive safety suite that’s found on the McLaren 720S. 

Engine & Performance

The central piece of the 2024 McLaren 750S is its 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo gasoline engine. At 7,500 rpm, this mill can make up to 740 horsepower. Its peak torque of 800 Nm meanwhile, is achieved at 5,500 rpm. Power is then sent to the vehicle’s rear wheels via a seven-speed seamless-shift gearbox (SSG) that comes with revised gear ratios.

According to McLaren, the result of this engine and transmission pairing is a blistering zero to 100 km/h time of just 2.8 seconds.

Also debuting on the McLaren 750S is the brand’s Proactive Chassis Control III (PCC III). This updated suspension system is said to ensure comfort, whilst having the capability to provide the needed stiffness for spirited driving. 

Likewise improved on the 750S is its braking system. In fact, the brand gave the 750S a Formula 1-inspired brake caliper cooling system. This, in turn, pairs with the vehicle’s ceramic disc brakes which were based on the ones fitted on the McLaren Senna hypercar. 

Price

The McLaren 750S can now be ordered from official McLaren retailers. The starting price wasn’t stated explicitly by the brand, though reports are saying that the coupe version will start at around $320,000. That’s around Php 17 million at current exchange rates.

McLaren did say that the car is also packaged with a three-year scheduled periodic maintenance plan and a 10-year vehicle body rust warranty.
