McLaren drops new pair of sneakers with Athletic Propulsion Labs

McLaren Automotive announced a new drop of APL McLaren HySpeed sneakers designed in three colorways.

As the name suggests, the sneakers are made in collaboration with high-performance athletic footwear brand Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL). This is the second drop of the APL McLaren HySpeed range. It is said to be “inspired by McLaren’s iconic supercars and hypercars,” which could refer to the likes of the 720S, Artura, and Senna.

Magenta/Pristine

The 2023 APL McLaren HySpeed is now available in the following colorways as per the British automaker:

1. Magenta/Pristine – the vibrant magenta represents the dynamic performance and driving characteristics mixed seamlessly with yellow hues as an ode to the luxurious lifestyle of APL and McLaren.
2. Pristine/Tan/Midnight – a lifestyle-inspired colorway taking inspiration from McLaren interiors and the French Riviera.
3. Black/White – an updated, fresh new take on APL’s historical best-selling colorway.

If the sneakers tickled your fancy, the 2023 APL McLaren HySpeed retails for 450 USD (or around Php 24,600) offered at APL’s official website.

Pristine/Tan/Midnight

“Following the hugely positive reception of the first drop of APL McLaren HySpeed sneakers, we have collaborated with APL to introduce exciting new colorways to the collection inspired by the vibrancy, dynamics, and energy of our supercars,” said McLaren Automotive Chief Sales and Marketing Officer George Biggs.

“Both McLaren and APL are leaders in their fields and are committed to pushing the boundaries of design and technology for enhanced performance, which makes this collaboration such as perfect fit,” added Biggs.

Black/White

This is not the first time McLaren took part in designing a pair of sneakers. Back in the early 90s, the McLaren Racing Team collaborated with ASICS to produce two sneakers tailored for pit crews, namely the GEL McLaren MA-2 and GEL McLaren F1. The automaker has also been expanding its audience by teaming up with the Lego Group to launch a McLaren Formula 1 Race Car Lego Technic model.
